Dr. M. R. Jack, Committee Clerk2 3 FOURTH STANDING COMMITTEE ON STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS, &C. Wednesday 3 February 1993
[MR. IAN MILLS in the Chair]
The Minister for Public Transport (Mr. Roger Freeman): I beg to move, That the Committee has considered the draft European Communities (Definition of Treaties) (International Railways Tariffs Agreements) Order 1993. 4 I can be extremely brief because I sense that this measure is uncontroversial. This is a procedural matter that relates to the accession in 1986 of Spain and Portugal to the Community and the necessary incorporation under the European Communities Act 1972 into our law of a recognition of the protocol to the European Coal and Steel Community. It is purely procedural and is beneficial to British Rail and other industries and I commend it to the Committee.
Mr. Brian Wilson (Cumminghame, North): I was interested in what the Minister had to say. Having put that on record, I think that we should let this pass for the time being.
Question put and agreed to.
Resolved, That the Committee has considered the Draft European Communities (Definition of Treaties) (International Railways Tariffs Agreements) Order 1993.
Committee rose at twenty-nine minutes to Eleven o 'clock.
THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS ATTENDED THE COMMITTEE:
